At Pitt Aesthetic Surgery, we see patients from across the country seeking facial rejuvenation, body contouring, and fat grafting procedures they can’t find closer to home. As part of the #1-ranked academic plastic surgery program in the nation, our surgeons provide care that is both highly personalized and nationally recognized.
Many of our out-of-town patients are referred by past patients, colleagues, or media features. Some find us through our research efforts. Others discover us after consultations elsewhere fell short, or when their goals require advanced techniques not available locally. Whatever brings you here, we make your journey to Pittsburgh safe, seamless, and worthwhile.
Choosing to travel for surgery is a major decision. Patients come to us because they want the highest level of safety, artistry, and innovation in a trusted medical setting.
Our goal is to combine the convenience of thoughtful planning with the assurance of world-class expertise.
Board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and fellowship-trained in aesthetic surgery at the Cleveland Clinic, Dr. James offers a wide range of facelift and neck lift options, including deep plane, high SMAS, extended SMAS, endoscopic, and minimally invasive approaches. He’s particularly known for advanced deep plane face and deep neck contouring techniques that few in the region perform. Due to his expertise in face and necklift surgery, Dr. James was recently featured on TLC’s 1000-lb Sisters, where he helped to perform Tammy’s face and neck lift.
Dr. Rubin is Chairman of the Dept. of Plastic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. Patients travel worldwide to see him for comprehensive aesthetic transformations. He is widely regarded as one of the top academic leaders in the field of plastic surgery. Due to his expertise and reputation, particularly in difficult and extreme cases, he was sought out by TLC’s 1000-lb Sisters for Tammy’s skin removal surgery. Dr. Gusenoff is a Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. Director of one of the country’s premier fellowships in body contouring, Dr. Gusenoff combines reconstructive and aesthetic approaches. He pioneered and is among the few surgeons in the U.S. offering foot fat grafting in collaboration with comprehensive podiatry care — an option many travel specifically to Pittsburgh to pursue. Due to his expertise in body contouring surgery, he was also recently featured on TLC’s 1000-lb Sisters, where he helped to perform Tammy’s skin removal surgery. He was recently recognized as one of the nation’s top plastic surgeons in Newsweek’s 2025 rankings.
Dr. Stofman is a Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh and is board-certified in both Plastic Surgery and Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery. Known for his vast experience in primary and revision rhinoplasty, Dr. Stofman frequently lectures and teaches surgical techniques to residents and colleagues nationwide. Patients travel to Dr. Stofman for his ability to restore both aesthetic harmony and structural function — particularly in advanced rhinoplasty and facial rejuvenation cases that demand experience, artistry, and precision.
Our out-of-town patients come for a wide range of procedures — often those requiring a high level of customization, combination, or technical nuance. Common reasons patients travel to us include:
We’ve built a seamless process to support our traveling patients before, during, and after surgery.
We begin with a virtual consultation to understand your goals and medical history. Photos or video assessments may be requested in advance to allow for precise surgical planning.
Our team will guide you through all pre-operative steps, including lab work, medical clearance (if needed), and detailed travel timelines.
We can recommend hotels near our facilities, including extended-stay suites and recovery-friendly accommodations. Some patients choose to book Airbnb or VRBO rentals nearby for greater privacy.
Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) is about 30–40 minutes from most of our operating locations. Ride-share, hotel shuttles, and private car options are available. If needed, we can assist in arranging medical transport or caregiver services.
We’ll give you detailed post-op instructions tailored to your procedure. You’ll also have scheduled follow-up visits — some in person, some virtual — to ensure a smooth recovery before heading home.
